Tanja's Volunteer Experience

She is a great person that I have met who is with a kind heart and also she is passionate about social services. During the short period of time she stayed here she managed to raise around 1400 Euros and give donations to children orphanages in Panadura,Kandy and Batticaloa. It was nice to associate her as a friend during her staying in Sri Lanka.

Cricket World Cup 2011

This was the biggest event so far that I joined as a volunteer. It was such a nice experience to work with more than hundred people for more than ten days. I was leading group of 3 people to help the organizers with accreditations, Security and various activities. I got to know good people through this and it helped me to broaden my network so I’m very happy that I joined this as a volunteer.

Marketa's Volunteer Experience

She came to Sri Lanka to work with Samadhi Foundation in Matara. She helped poor kids to improve their English knowledge and also she worked on other community development projects as well. She was the first volunteer who came to Sri Lanka after I became the in charge of projects runs by University of Colombo.

Youth The Word

His is an interesting event that I have worked on. It was a Guinness world record break attempt. The Sri Lankan youth worked together to form a human mosaic forming the word ‘Youth’ with 1500 young people. I joined this event as a volunteer and help organizers with crowd handling and stall managing. We were very enthusiastic at the end of the day because we break the previous record set by United States.

Greta's Volunteer Experience

She is a University student from Germany who worked as a volunteer English teacher in Udugama Junior School. She helped those kids to improve their English Skills with games and group activities. It was nice to have a friend like her in Sri Lanka and also I’m very happy that I contribute to arrange her volunteer program here in Sri Lanka.

Why I start this Blog ?

I thought to introduce about me and my work from the first post that I will put in this blog site. Being short and sweet I would say that I’m a simple and fun loving guy who likes to help others. And I believe volunteering is a powerful tool which we can use to help others as well as develop ourselves. So far I have done few volunteer activities which I enjoyed most and I will share my unforgettable & joyful experiences in my future posts. 


Being an undergraduate of University of Colombo I was privileged to join a global student organization called AIESEC. In which the vision is “Peace and Fulfillment of Human kinds Potential” through the concept of student exchange. After I joined it I worked with team who handles incoming exchanges what we did was we search for opportunities that foreign interns/volunteers can come here and work. There are two kinds of opportunities that we are creating one is corporate internships & the other one is community development projects. What I liked most is the Community Development Program in which foreign volunteers come here & work in issue based projects from which the society gets a positive impact. 


I’m very happy because I have being a part of this lovely organization to provide volunteer experiences. It is enthusiastic to see that our society and people get benefits because of the foreign volunteers we bring down while the volunteers are having really nice cultural experience in Sri Lanka. 


Why I wanted to start this blog is to encourage local people in volunteering to help others & the other thing is I wanted to raise the attention of foreign volunteer’s towards Sri Lanka. What I can tell for my foreign friends is if you are interesting in volunteering choose Sri Lanka because our people are very friendly and warmhearted. I’m pretty sure you will have the nicest experience here in my beautiful country than any other.
